About

Our Story

Homes Fur Hounds, Inc of Williamsburg, Virginia was founded in 2012 by Tom and Deanna Cosby in memory of Sami and Maggie, their beloved beagles. We were founded with the belief that each one of us can make a difference in the world, one rescued dog at a time.

We first started by taking in small beagles that were left behind after hunting season. Our rescue has grown and although we still take in a lot of beagles, we now rescue small to mid-sized dogs of all breeds and mixes. Most of our dogs have had a rough start in life and we do everything we can to make sure they find a wonderful family.

Homes Fur Hounds is a non-profit registered 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization.  We are a group of volunteers who have dedicated our lives to rescuing and saving homeless, unwanted, abandoned, neglected, and abused small dogs. We save most of our animals from kill shelters around the state, but also accept owner surrenders and stray surrenders.

We do not have a shelter facility and operate solely out of foster homes. This ensures that all of our dogs learn the skills they need to be successful family members when they move to their forever homes.

All our pets undergo veterinary screenings and treatment prior to being made available for adoption. We spay/neuter, vaccinate, medically examine, microchip, and evaluate and/or socialize all dogs that come into our rescue before placing up for adoption to pre-screened homes.

For animals in need of serious care, we treat all that is reasonable and possible as long as the animal is not suffering. Because veterinary care is never ending, there are adoption fees, with some animals costing more than others. Donations are accepted and greatly appreciated.

Our goal is simple: to find great, lifelong, loving homes for as many small dogs as possible.
